Eleven signs that you need a new job
They say that the first step to solve a problem is to notice that you have it. So, how do you know when you have chosen the wrong career? Here are some hints. If you recognize yourself in three or more points, you definitely need a coach! You procrastinate systematically This means you are already not doing that job. Best sign that you might be happier somewhere else. It might be interesting to take a [...]
Shine, dark side
Next week I am flying to Las Vegas for Steve Pavlina’s “Conscious Growth Seminar”. In the material I have obtained as a participant it is recommended that you choose goals for the workshop. I absolutely agree that focus is necessary to make the most out of any experience, and probably even more if it is about your own growth. Today I just found my focus as I noticed once again that my source of value [...]
30-day trial evaluation and next trial
At the beginning of October I started a 30-day trial called 5 nice things a day and I would like to comment on the results. It was a no-brainer to decide to keep this habit since it has just good effects: I enjoy that happy moment right before falling asleep where I go through the day and look for nice things, it makes me feel better also the rest of the time, and it raises [...]
Change is fun
At the end of a coaching session (preparing the client for a potentially conflictive meeting) I got the most beautiful piece of feedback: That was helpful! And I even had fun! Days later came an e-mail: the meeting went great. Changing can be so much fun when we forget about feeling guilty and see the puzzle in front of us as a challenge! The result is always beautiful and moving.
What does coaching have to do with physics?
Maybe you are wondering after looking at my profile? Maybe you find it strange that I do coaching after a physics doctorate? Maybe you are a physicist (or a natural scientist, an engineer, an IT-expert, etc.) and wonder what coaching could have to do with you? To be honest, I have been wondering myself for a while about this. In the end I found far more similarities between the way a coach and a physicist [...]
Make overwhelming tasks affordable: from everything to happiness
What happens if you tell yourself: I should clean the flat? Let me guess: you don’t even start. What happens if you look at the mirror in the bathroom, see the tooth pasta stains, imagine it clean and shiny? You might feel like cleaning it. You might clean it and feel happy about it. You might even look for other corners, which might be waiting for you to discover how they can make you happy. [...]
It is not too late
I learned something about perfectionism during my 15-minute jogging yesterday morning. Do you know perfectionism? I bet you do. Have you ever stopped doing something because you were afraid you wouldn’t be able to do it “properly”? Most of us have. Perfectionism is well known to be one of the enemies of productivity. We can spend hours with unnecessary details just because we did not take some minutes to define what would be enough to [...]
What is the difference between consulting with a coach and speaking with a friend?
Friends are supportive, friends listen to us, they want the best for us. Sometimes a friend can give us fantastic piece of advice, offer a shoulder to cry or help us with practical things. So, why pay a coach if you can speak with a friend? Coaching is goal-oriented Coaching is per definition goal-oriented. A coach will guide you towards a goal or solution and help you define the next steps towards the desired direction. [...]
New 30-day-trial: 5 nice things a day
Yesterday I started a new 30-day-trial inspired on the book I am reading right now: “The uselessness of suffering, Keys to learn to live positively” by María Jesús Álava Reyes, a Spanish psychologist and best-seller author. I think the book is not translated into English, the original title is “La inutilidad del sufrimiento, Claves para aprender a vivir de manera positiva”. The idea is to review each day in the evening and come up with [...]
Make overwhelming tasks affordable: 10 minutes a day
There is one productivity trick, which you can apply in many different occasions: I call it “10 minutes a day”. It is so simple that it is almost ridiculous: take a task that feels overwhelming and dedicate just 10 minutes a day to it. The amount of time is just an orientation, there is nothing magic about the number 10. Take what feels good for you. Here are some examples for applications: Learning music, a [...]
